Animal Face Magnets

By Sherri Osborn, About.com

Michelle explains how to make cute magnets using plastic lids.

Materials Needed:

  • Plastic lids any size
  • Felt in various colors
  • Glue
  • Magnetic strips
  • Wiggle eyes (optional)
  • Fabric paint or markers

Instructions:
First, start with any size clean plastic lid. Decide what type of animal you want to do - bunnies, cats, dogs, elephants, pigs, cows, etc.

Once you know what type of animal cut a piece of felt to cover inside of lid. For example, for a bunny you could use white felt. Make sure you glue the felt on the inside of the lid the magnetic will go on the outside of the lid. (Hot glue works faster but if children are younger use white glue it just takes longer to dry).

Now, cut felt pieces for ears, nose, etc. The eyes you can either use felt of wiggle eyes. Glue on all facial features. You also can paint on features with fabric paint. Or uses markers that will write on felt. I usually paint on the whiskers. Once it is dry put magnet on back.

When doing this project with children it is best to determine what animal you want them to do and have the shapes precut for small children or drawn on the felt for older children to cut out themselves.
